Doris Wangari holds a Masters degree in Biotechnology and a Bachelor degree, with first class honors, in Medical Microbiology, both from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Previous to becoming the new PBS Kenya Coordinator in January, 2014, Doris worked as a biosafety officer at the National Biosafety Authority (NBA) in Nairobi and Mombasa for two years. In addition, she lectured part time in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology on food biotechnology and biosafety, biopolicy and bioethics. During her work at the NBA, she established an NBA office in Mombasa and was part of a team that trained more than 30 people on biosafety in Mombasa County. Participants ranged from various regulatory agencies, research institutions and academic institutions in the region. Doris holds a great passion for biotechnology research, which she believes is a key asset for Africa in the new millennium in addressing food insecurity, diseases, environmental pollution and poverty.
