Julian Adams

PBS Asia Coordinator

In addition to serving as the PBS Asia Coordinator, Julian Adams is a Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Julian works with in-country coordinators in the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. He has extensive experience in developing Asia biosafety frameworks and guidelines. He received

his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of California, Davis and, after spending a year as a postdoctoral fellow at the same institution, he joined the University of Michigan in 1970. He has held visiting appointments at universities in Brazil, France, and Germany. He served as Chairman of the Department of Biology at the University of Michigan from 1996-2001. He received a number of awards throughout his career, including Alexander von Humboldt, Fulbright, Jefferson, and NATO fellowships. Prior to PBS, Julian worked for 6 years as a consultant and advisor in the Agricultural Biotechnology team in the Bureau of Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade at USAID in Washington D.C.
